Privacy Policy and Location Data

We recently updated our Privacy Policy and some of the changes we made pertain to your location data. In an effort to provide information and transparency, this post is meant to explain how that location data is used and how to give or deny permission to use your location information.

With the new implementation of the Basic Meeting List Toolbox, or BMLT, we now have a feature-rich implementation of meeting lists on our website and in our area. These take the forms of a tabbed meeting list interface, new printed meeting list, and a meeting search featuring Google Maps. More information on BMLT can be found here.

The BMLT meeting list and meeting search both use the Google Maps API to find your location, determine your distance from meetings in the area, and provide dynamic links to Google Maps directions to each meeting. You may encounter one of these notices when you visit the BMLT Meeting List or BMLT Meeting Search pages:

"www.williamsportna.org wants to: Know your location"

These permissions are entirely optional and do not inhibit you from using the BMLT features on the site. They merely add some additional functionality to those two pages. Please be aware that whether you allow this website to use your current location or block that request, your device or browser will likely remember that choice and you won’t be asked again. You can, however, change location permissions in your device or browser settings if you want to allow or block the use of your location in the future.

We look forward to these new features with BMLT and hope that this post was able to provide some necessary information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us or send an email to the area’s Web Chair at webservant@williamsportna.org. Thank you.
